Coenie, who hails from South Africa and has been rocking the UK scene since 2000. For years, Coenie was all about the physical treatments – cracking backs, adjusting spines, the whole shebang. But then, dun dun DUNNNN... he realized there was more to pain than just what's happening in the body. He had seen the light! He delved into SIRPA training (Stress Illness Recovery Practitioners Association) and now he's all about the mind-body connection. And that's when things got interesting...
Osteopaths: The Sherlock Holmes of HealthcareI had to ask Coenie if he felt like osteopaths were just better doctors, and the answer was a resounding YES. "Why?" you ask. Because, unlike your regular M.D. who runs through a checklist of symptoms like they're ordering from a drive-thru, osteopaths are DETECTIVES. They're all about finding the root cause of the problem. In other words, an osteopath will help you find the reason and medical doctors are looking to just treat the symptoms. Coenie confirmed that, and in addition, added that he chose osteopathy over physiotherapy because he knew the importance of finding the issues in the body, like posture and alignment, which are often overlooked. The TakeawaySo, what did I learn from my chat with Coenie? That pain isn't always what it seems, and that sometimes, the answer lies not in popping pills or getting another adjustment, but in understanding the connection between our minds and our bodies. Listen to the episode for the full conversation, and get ready to have your mind blown. And Coenie, if you're reading this, thanks for the chat! Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go book a Reformer Pilates class and pray I don't end up in traction.

]Today, I want to explore something that has been on my mind lately: streaks. Whether it's in sports, social media, or personal fitness, we're surrounded by these narratives. But what is it about streaks that captivates us so much?
Why We Love Streaks In sports, we celebrate incredible feats like Lou Gehrig's consecutive games played or UConn's dominance in women's basketball. These stories inspire us and provide a sense of order and predictability in our lives. Beyond sports, social media platforms like Snapchat and TikTok have popularized the concept of maintaining daily connections through "streaks." Even in personal fitness and blogging, there's pressure to maintain daily routines. The Psychological Impact Streaks can become deeply tied to our identity. They serve as proof of our dedication and discipline. However, this can be both motivating and detrimental. For those dealing with TMS (Tension Myositis Syndrome) or similar conditions, the stress of maintaining a streak can exacerbate symptoms. I've experienced this personally with my reading app streak. When it was accidentally reset from 284 days due to a glitch, I felt an overwhelming urge to restore it—so much so that I lost sleep over it! It sounds irrational now but highlights how easily these digital achievements can affect us emotionally. Losing Streaks: A Different Story Of course, there are also losing streaks—those periods where everything seems to go wrong at once. In sports, they can impact careers; for fans and athletes alike, they reinforce feelings of failure if not managed properly. Sports psychologists help athletes reframe these narratives positively during tough times. It’s crucial not just for performance but also for mental health. Understanding Our Obsession So why do we get so caught up in these patterns? Experts say it’s because humans crave orderliness and predictability in life—a comforting pattern amidst chaos. Streaks offer more than just routine; they enhance self-worth by signaling value both internally (to ourselves) and externally (to others). This is especially true in professional settings where consistency matters significantly. My Own Confession I have a confession: I’ve maintained a 438-day Duolingo streak! While my Spanish skills might be questionable at best—it gives me that little celebratory buzz every day when I complete my lesson! It’s silly perhaps but shows how even small achievements give us satisfaction when framed within the context of maintaining something over time. Putting Streaks into Perspective Ultimately though—a streak is what you make of it! If you’re not relying on one for your livelihood then enjoy them as fun challenges rather than sources of stress or anxiety! For athletes however consistency does matter greatly—it shows resilience which often defines success beyond any single achievement! But remember all good things must come to an end eventually including those beloved winning runs... How you handle their conclusion emotionally defines who you truly are as an individual beyond external markers like numbers on screens! It’s about embracing growth along your journey rather than fixating solely upon reaching some arbitrary milestone... Feel free to share your own experiences with streaks below! What drives your obsession? Can you let go when needed? Thanks for tuning into this episode!
